Canon Terms
First, a quick guide to certain canon terms that are vital to Lucy and Nyu.

Diclonius (Plural - Diclonii): A newly evolved species of horned, humanoid mutants with psychokinetic abilities. All are female, though there's an extremely rare chance of them being born male. Named for the two horns that grow out their heads, but another difference from humans is the size of their pineal gland. Whereas a human's is about the size of a pea, a Diclonius' pineal gland is the size of an egg. It's believed that the pineal gland is the source of the Diclonii's psychokinetic abilities. *Has its own wiki page for further reading.

Vectors: Invisible arms of a psychic nature that can't be seen by normal humans and the defining ability of Diclonii. They move according to the user's will. Can be used as both a means for attacking and defending, but they also help with the propagation of the Diclonius species, all of which will be expanded on in the Powers/Abilities Section. *Also has its own wiki.

About/Personality
Character Wiki | DNA Voice Wiki

Lucy has three distinct personalities. In a nutshell, Nyu represents everything that is good in this character, the DNA Voice represents the evil side, and Kaede/Lucy—the original persona—is a sort of “middle ground” between the two, since she can’t be strictly categorized as either good or evil like the others; she is both.

Lucy (aka Kaede)

Lucy holds a deep hatred for humans that stems from her lonely childhood and is a ruthless killer. Unlike the anime, in the manga, Lucy is not a killer who stays silent as she murders her victims. Instead, she's often shown laughing, reveling in the carnage caused by her hand, even going as far as taunting or sneering at her victims as she takes them apart.

Lucy often displayed a blasé attitude when killing, as one childhood scene showed Lucy calmly showering and looking through the fridge in the home of a family she’d just murdered. Lucy is also an extremely vengeful being as shown by her relationship with Kurama and the things she does to those close to him (i.e. Kisaragi, Nana, Mariko). Should she have any reason to believe that someone has greatly wronged her, she will be sure to draw out the pain, whether it’s dismembering them one limb at a time, or killing that person’s loved ones first and leaving her true target alive to suffer the aftermath like she does with Kurama. However, that doesn't mean she lacks more "tame" ways of letting someone know that she doesn't like them. She will take sarcastic or snarky jabs at them, intentionally annoy them, or even punch them in the face with a vector like she did to Yuka once.

In the past, Lucy felt that her DNA Voice was too strong to resist, especially since she believed herself to be beyond the point of return after murdering Kouta's family. Her weak resistance against her DNA Voice, fed by her own emotional baggage and the doubt in her heart, allowed it to convince her over and over that the only way to make a home for herself in the world was to kill humans and replace them with more Diclonii. However, there was also a sense of sadness and loneliness mixed in with the anger and hatred, even though Lucy tried not to show it. Deep down, Lucy was caught between her killer Diclonius instincts and her wish to find a home by peacefully coexisting with humans. Lucy did want friends, so it was not a case of wanting them or not. It was more like Lucy was scared to let people in out of fear they would only reject her in the end, or get hurt because of her (like what happened to Aiko). By keeping people at a distance, she protected herself by stopping the pain before it even began, even if it meant a lonely existence.

Only in the moments leading up to her sacrifice did Lucy finally take a stand against her DNA Voice, in part thanks to Kouta blowing her argument out of the water. When Lucy told him she had no choice but to obey the Voice, Kouta called bullshit and countered that humans also dealt with similar struggles sometimes (i.e. wanting to cause harm to others, especially in retaliation), and that if one simply followed their instincts without any inhibitions, then they were no better than a wild animal. "What does you having horns have anything to do with it?" he had told her.

In the end, despite what she did with her life, Lucy chose to give it up to save the one she loved. She remembered the true reason behind her desire to become stronger: To protect those she cared about. To Lucy, there is no fate worse than being alone. Even though she was treated so cruelly by so many, she realized too late what the silver lining was: At least she also had the few people who had accepted her as Nyu, and who probably would have accepted her (Lucy) too, had she not gone down the dark path that she did.

Nyu CW: Mentions of self-harm and attempted suicide.

The total opposite of Lucy. Sweet, polite, easy to approach, innocent, clumsy, gentle, and optimistic, if rather naive for someone her age. Also too nice and too trusting for her own good at times. However, in Lucy’s own words, Nyu is the “person [she] would have been if [she] hadn’t been born with horns.” Lucy may have viewed Nyu as an inconvenience at first, but she eventually saw Nyu as her "ideal self."

The main reason Nyu didn't develop into a cold, hardened person like Lucy was due to her amnesia, granting her a clean slate without the same painful memories that Lucy held. In the beginning of the series, Nyu had the mindset of a toddler and could not even speak properly (only able to say “nyu"), but after the six-month timeskip she mentally matured into a normal, eighteen-year-old girl, though she held onto her “nyu” catchphrase as a way to express embarrassment, confusion, pain, or outrage. She also had friends like Kouta and Yuka to take care of her as she recovered, unlike Lucy who had no one, so Nyu "grew up" knowing the warmth of friendship and love, and that not all people are bad. With little to no hatred in Nyu's heart, the DNA Voice couldn't whisper into her mind as easily.

Nyu is not without her flaws, though. One very big one is that she's prone to self-harm and suicidal thoughts when she hits rock bottom. In the manga, she became suicidal after learning about Lucy for the first time, devastated by the idea of having blood on her hands, and was shown to have self-inflicted cut marks on her arms.

However, Nyu is strong in one way that Lucy is not. During her depression that followed after learning about Lucy, the DNA Voice took advantage of her emotional vulnerability and tried to tempt her into killing. Despite her sorrow and not knowing what the Voice was, Nyu didn't obey. She refused to believe that taking lives would solve her problems. That courage shone through again when she refused to yield to Chief Kakuzawa's attempted brainwashing. He told her more about Lucy and her history of murder, that it was impossible for a Diclonius such as herself to coexist happily with humans, but she said no to all of that, remembering how Kouta and the other residents of Maple House accepted her, even with her horns.

The DNA Voice

It has no compassion or humanity at all. Its only desire is to complete the extinction of humans in order to make way for the Diclonii to become the new dominant species. It is capable of taking control of Lucy and Nyu's body for brief moments of time. Toward the end of the series, Lucy was going to allow Kurama to shoot her, after she finally made a promise to Kouta not to kill anymore, after he regained his childhood memories of her. But the DNA Voice seized control once it sensed that its host was in danger, dismembering one of Kurama's hands. Lucy regained control moments later, confused by what just happened. Another time the DNA Voice gained control was when both personas were weakened from being on the brink of death. For most of the series, however, it was only a prominent voice that Lucy and Nyu heard in their head.

Headcanons
-Elfen Lied does not state a particular time period in canon, so I just base it off of the time it was published, which was during the early 2000s (2002-2005). The time period I've set up in my head is: Kaede/Lucy was born in 1985. In 1995, at age ten, she met Kouta. Canon says that Lucy spent the next five years (after murdering Kouta's family) living on the streets, until she was captured, so at age fifteen (year: 2000). Canon also says she was imprisoned at the Diclonius Research Institute for the next three years, so from age fifteen to age eighteen (years: 2000-2003).

-Both Lucy and Nyu are fond of the color purple.

-Lucy in particular is fascinated by the original fairytale of The Little Mermaid written by Hans Christian Andersen, feeling as though there are similarities between the story and her own life.

-Prior to running away, since Lucy had no friends growing up and was constantly bullied by the other children at the orphanage, she threw herself into her studies to try and take her mind off the bullies. She also spent a lot of time reading for her own entertainment.

-Even after she fled the orphanage, during her days of living on the street, Lucy would visit the public library when she wasn't busy killing or infecting humans, reading whatever interested her. (But also so she could sit in the library's air conditioning during Japan's summer heats, and then the heating during the winter.)

Powers
Vectors
Strengths:
-Are invisible to most humans. However, if your character is not human, or has supernatural or psychic abilities, or any of the sort that allow them to see things that can't typically be seen, they'll be able to see the vectors. Or at the very least, sense their presence. Whichever would be more fun for you. Feel free to ask if you're not sure.

-Allow Diclonii to manipulate their environment without having to touch anything physically. The range of Lucy's vectors is 2 meters (about 6.6ft), but it increases to 5 meters (about 16ft) when her horns become longer, which tends to happen when she enters an extreme, emotional state.

-Can hold their user up, or move the user from one place to another, by two means: 1) Making step-like motions. 2.) Propelling the user through the air after pushing off the ground or some other solid object.

-Can phase through solid objects such as walls, but also through bodies, which allows Lucy to kill by damaging or moving blood vessels in the brain or heart. Being able to phase through bodies also allows the vectors to snip nerves, disabling a Diclonius' opponents.

-Possess great strength, allowing Lucy to bludgeon, push, dismember, decapitate, or even slash her victims in half, so breaking bones would definitely be possible. That strength is also what makes any objects within her 2m range become deadly projectiles for her to throw at those outside her range.

-Defend their user by deflecting bullets from firearms. They can also decelerate larger projectiles (such as cannon balls), but only if there's sufficient distance between the Diclonius and the weapon (elaborated under Weaknesses).

-Healing: Lucy was able to use her vectors to heal Kouta's cells by piecing them back together after they'd been damaged by a fatal gunshot to the chest.

-Able to divert blasts from explosions. Vectors won't completely negate the blast, but they will protect their user from the worst of it.

-Lastly, the vectors help propagate the Diclonius species, because when they touch a human male, those men become infected with a virus that leads to any children fathered by them being born as Diclonii. (Obviously, this ability will be disabled in-game.)

Weaknesses:

-Unable to stop heavier bullets if they are shot at point blank range. Another instance in which vectors will be unable to stop bullets is if the user can't see where the bullets are coming from, because then they won't have enough focus or coordination to change the trajectory in time.

-Cannot manipulate light or sound, so Diclonii are susceptible to weapons such as flashbangs/stun grenades and sound-based attacks.

-Diclonii can't use their vectors while in great pain since it breaks their concentration.

-It is possible to disable vector-use for a few hours by tampering with its source--the pineal gland.

-If one of Lucy/Nyu's horns is broken, it will put her in enough pain to where she can't use her vectors. If both are broken, she will quickly lose consciousness.

-If Lucy/Nyu uses too much power, it takes a toll on her physical body, to the point where she could die.
Mizu Magic (Jikan)
Thanks to Gojira's Blessing, Lucy and Nyuu have a natural proficiency for Mizu.

More will be added as they become more efficient at using it.
